April 28th is the Day of Mourning for workers whose death was on the job or work related. In 2018 there were 131 work-related deaths in BC, 4 of whom were young workers. This is only part of the picture. In the same year workplace injury or illness resulted in 2.8 million days of lost work. More facts and statistics can be found at http://www.dayofmourning.bc.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/2019-DoM-factsheet-highres.pdf . This year there will be a ceremony to honour the lives of those lost and to renew commitments to safe and healthy workplaces, held at the Jack Poole Plaza from 10:30 to 11:30am on the 28th. Other ceremonies will be held at various locations around the province.
